We looked at the art of the Indian artist Jamini Roy, and noted his fluid lines. We compared his lines to the fauvist artist Matisse and found similarities in the rhythmic lines of both. Children completed worksheets on the artist to understand him better. Once they were familiar with his work, his motifs and the vibrant colours, children painted their own Jamini Roy inspired paintings. It was amazing to see them confidently paint the free-flowing lines and fill in bright colours and patterns. Their paintings are no less than master peices which the master himself would have been proud of.
